I think Family Dog was down the hill on the left just before the 1st street, Balboa. There's just an empty lot there now.

Isn't the Great Highway is like the 49th bye-bye?

the 49th bye-bye is right and that sounds like the spot of the family dog...

one cool thing, if you drive on it today there is still one or two houses that have dead flags flying high, along with one huge skull banner in a front window of a house...it is a fine sight to see to say the very least...always brings a smile to my face...

btw: one of the first times I was in the beach chalet, which is on that strip, was during a period of major shark sightings...what started as a discussion and with one person showing me a shark bite ended up with like ten people saying: "well look at this..."..."no, look at this..."...I just remember being surrounded by people with either their shirts up, their pants down, or their legs/arms laying out on the bar all with very ugly looking bites...one strange scene...
